Singer and composer Jack Berch was born in Sigel, Illinois on August 26, 1907. The baritone vocalist and whistler began performing over the Mutual network in 1935, and during the same year he was also heard over the NBC network sponsored by Knox Gelatin. Beginning on January 19,1937 Jack Berch and His Boys entertained twice weekly over the CBS network, sponsored by Fels Naptha Soap. The fifteen minute show starred Jack, along with The Rhythm Boys, Mark Warnow's orchestra, and announcer John Reed King. In 1938 Jack and His Boys were sponsored by Sweetheart Soap under the title of The Sweetheart Serenader. Ed Herlihy and Tom Slater announced and John Gart provided the music. On September 20, 1943 Berch premiered a new series aired over the Mutual network and sponsored by Kelloggs All Bran Cereal. Tom Shirley announced and music was played by The Three Suns. During the mid-1940s Berch took his show to the ABC network where it was heard on Monday through Friday under the sponsorship of the Prudential Insurance Company. Organist John supplied the music. The last broadcast of this final Jack Berch series aired in 1952.

As a song writer Jack Berch penned such ditties as Do a Good Deed Every Day, Fce Fi Fo Fum, I'm A'Whistlin, and Let Your Heart Sing.
