Orchestra leader Albert Mitchell and radio producer Bruce Chapman joined forces to bring the Answer Man series to the Mutual network in 1937.

Mitchell, who was heard as the Answer Man, fielded questions on a wide range of subjects during the fifteen minute nightly program. The questions sent in by listeners were all answered by mail with the more interesting queries answered over the air. Since Albert Mitchell was not a walking encyclopedia, he relied on a staff of researchers who consulted a myriad of sources to ferret out the answers.
