Beginning late in 1940, and continuing through the summer of 1941, the NBC Blue network sustained a half hour program of plays adapted for radio aired under the title Star Spangled Theatre.

Bert Lytell hosted the program, Paul Lavalle led the orchestra, and Gilbert Martin announced. Rather than radio actors, the series featured performers from the stage and motion pictures.
